This is done through a small set of foundation subjects, on top of which students select a set of header subjects that build on the foundations, and lay further foundation for exploration in a selected set of intellectual themes. Laboratory subjects, independent projects, and research opportunities provide engagement with principles and techniques of analysis, design, and experimentation in a variety of fields. The department also offers a range of programs that enable students to gain experience in industrial settings, ranging from collaborative industrial projects done on campus to term-long experiences at partner companies.

Graduate study in the department moves students towards mastery of areas of individual interest, through course work and significant research, often defined in interdisciplinary areas that take advantage of the tremendous range of faculty expertise in the department and, more broadly, across MIT.

Given the breadth of faculty within EECS, the department pursues a wide range of research topics. These range from theoretical computer science, computer systems and architecture, graphics, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, computational applications in medicine, computational biology, communications, information theory, control systems, large scale systems analysis, circuits, devices, power and energy, numerical computing, novel materials for devices, nanotechnology, manufacturing, biotechnology, speech and hearing, prosthetic devices, analog and hybrid circuits and devices, and many, many more.

The department’s faculty members are widely recognized as leading figures in their fields. Included are more than 40 members of the National Academy of Engineering, more than 10 members of the National Academy of Sciences, several National Medal of Technology winners, as well as many Fellows of professional societies, such as the IEEE, ACM, APS, AAAI and others.

What Carriers are For Masters and Doctorals in Psychology?

A number of psychology and psychology-related career options that require graduate degrees, including:

University Teaching and Research. If you're interested in teaching undergraduate, master's-level, or doctoral-level students, you will probably work in a university setting, where you will probably also do research. If you are not interested in teaching and want to focus on research, you can work for government agencies (for example, the Centers for Disease Control) or for private research organizations. To work as a psychologist in these settings, you typically will need a Ph.D. in psychology--not in another field such as education or social work.

Applied Work. Psychologists in selected subfields have the option not only of teaching (sharing knowledge) and research (generating knowledge) but also of working in settings in which they apply their knowledge. These subfields include clinical psychology, counseling psychology, forensic psychology, health psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and sports psychology  School psychology is also one of these applied areas.

Clinical Psychology. Clinical psychologists assess and treat people with psychological problems. They may act as therapists for people who are experiencing normal psychological crises (e.g., grief) or for individuals suffering from chronic psychiatric disorders. Some clinical psychologists are generalists who work with a wide variety of populations, while others work with specific groups such as children, the elderly, or those with specific disorders (e.g., eating disorders).

Counseling Psychology. Counseling psychologists do many of the same things that clinical psycholgists do. However, counseling psychologists tend to focus more on persons with adjustment problems rather than on persons suffering from severe psychological disorders. They may be trained in psychology departments or in education departments. Counseling psycholgists are employed in academic settings, college counseling centers, community mental health centers, and private practice.

Forensic Psychology. The title "forensic psychologist" can mean quite a

Increasing Tuition Fees - Stragle For Financial Aid Offices

On what should have been a carefree day of reconnecting with friends and settling into new classes recently, more than two dozen students at the University of California, Berkeley, sat in uneasy silence outside the financial aid office.

The airy room on the second floor of Sproul Hall took on the desperate feeling of an unemployment office, with students waiting their turn to plead for emergency loans.

“I want to have enough money to pay for school,” Daniel Seman, a junior majoring in English and music, said as he waited to see a financial aid counselor last Wednesday. “My mom is really worried.”

Mr. Seman, 23, said he had already spent an emergency loan of $500 from the university on books and food. But faced with about $7,230 for tuition and fees this semester, roughly $1,000 more than the fall semester last year, he was back in line trying to get another loan.

X Ray Technician Jobs - Salary Info

Are you interested interested in pursuing a career as a
radiologist?, I Yes wouldn't you want to know what the annual average x ray
technician salary is?

Before we can just spit out a national average, it is good to take
into account the many variables that play a part in what your average x
ray technician salary will be. Obviously your schooling, or experience
level will play a big part in how much you make. Digging a little deeper
than your x ray technician training, is where you obtained your
training from. Most employers will base your yearly salary on what
accredited school program you attended.

Another factor that will play a big role on how much money you make
yearly, is where you live geographically in the United States. You have
to remember that salaries will vary depending on where you live. The
salary of someone who lives in Los Angeles California will be different
than someone who lives in Houston Texas or Miami Florida.

If you attend a one year x technician program, and received a
certificate, you can expect to average about $56,000 per year. However,
if you are an x-ray technician who went and got his bachelor’s degree,
the national average is closer to $63,000 per year.

increase as your experience and knowledge level increases. If you have
less than two years of experience as an x-ray technician, your salary
will be under $40,000 per year. If you have closer to five years
experience as an x-ray technician, you can expect to see about $43,000
per year. With a little more experience under your belt, and boasting 6
to 10 years experience your x ray technician salary will be close to $55,000 per year you can expect to see a salary cap of about $65,000 per year after 11 years of experience.

Strengthen Your Management Skills by Online MBA Program

Whether you aim at a government job or desire to join a private organisation, having a management qualification will help you in both cases. The well-established individuals at higher corporate positions attribute the credit of their success to the MBA degree that they possess. Regular management programs are quite effective, but not all the career aspirants are able to attend the lectures regularly. As a result of this, online degreeseducation has come into existence to provide standard educational facilities to the students at remote locations. Once you join a firm as a management trainee, online MBA degree guarantees frequent growth in your career graph.

Go and ask the heads of every department of big corporate organisations about their qualification. You will find that each one of them possess a valid management qualification, no matter whether it is online MBA or regular MBA. There was definitely a time when the employers hesitates much before recruiting someone who has passed out from online educational mode. But some companies were innovative enough and hence they offered the distance or online degrees holders a chance to prove themselves. This chance, however, proved to be a breakthrough that led the recruiters to appoint the online learners for prestigious posts without any hesitation.

In case of regular mode of education, the students get proper guidance from their faculties wherever they require. In fact, there are private tutors who force them to finish their lessons and appear for surprise tests. This prepares them for examinations to be held in the universities. But in case of the online MBA education, there is no one toguide the learners personally. In simple words, if a student performs well in his online MBA examination, it is not only the credit of the system, but also the credit of the learners who are self-disciplines and sincere enough to go through the lessons themselves.

Once you become an online MBA degree holder, you will be assured of getting a dignified designation in the well-reputed corporate firms along with attractive salary packages. As far as the fresh graduates are concerned, they are already focused enough to pursue their post-graduation. But along with offering the fresh graduates a chance to earn a post graduate management degree, the online MBA programs also provide a fair chance to the professionals to upgrade their skills in their field of work from time to time, thereby ensuring frequent promotions for themselves, in spite of remaining in a consistent position for life because of their confined knowledge.

Online degrees in management are in no way less efficient than the regular degrees. Like regular degree courses, the online program on management also provides various specialisations for the career aspirants to gain expertise in. Some of the most popular online MBA specialisations are as follows:

  • Human Resources or HR
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Marketing
  • Healthcare and hospitality
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Organisational behaviour, etc.

Whichever online MBA program you may choose to specialise in, but make sure the academic institution you enrol with is accredited and possesses recognition in the educational arena.

Myths and Facts about MBA degree

Myth: One must have an undergraduate degree in business to enroll in an MBA program.

Fact: The MBA degree was originally developed in response to needs created when engineers and scientists were promoted into management positions and found that being skilled in one field or background does not make one skilled in management. Universities responded by creating the MBA degree. Although about 40 percent of MBA students have undergraduate business degrees, the preference is for other undergraduate fields because good managers need a broad background beyond just business education. Majors in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences are best but all other majors are acceptable. I have taught MBA students with backgrounds in history, music, languages, medicine, law, dentistry, psychology, and many others.

Myth: MBA programs only accept students with considerable work experience.

Myth: It is best to get the MBA degree immediately after the undergraduate degree.

Fact: MBA programs prefer students with 2-4 years work experience after the first degree. Although most programs boast that they require students with work experience, many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. Also when you graduate, your job offers will be about the same as a business undergraduate gets because you have no work experience, and you've been two years out of your undergraduate field so it's hard to get work in that area.

Myth: The MBA degree is available in a variety of academic fields.

Fact: It is common to see questions such as "Which schools offer the MBA in pharmacy?" or "I want to get an MBA in aviation management." or an MBA in finance, marketing, accounting, or human resource management. There is no such degree. Universities don't grant MBA in information systems, or MBA in finance. They grant the degree Master in Business Administration, or they offer the MS in finance, MS in marketing, etc. The MBA is a general degree preparing students for management positions in any level of a business, up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. You don't become a specialist in a field with 2-3 courses. It generally takes a year of concentrated study which is attained with the degree Master of Science in finance, pharmacy, mechanical engineering, or other specialization.

Myth: The MBA degree is worth the cost and effort only if it is earned from a top-tier school.

Fact: The top-tier MBA programs receive many more applicants than they can admit, and may reject 90 percent or more of highly qualified applicants. It is true that graduates from the top-tier schools get the highest salary offers upon graduations. But many other very good MBA programs provide a valuable degree with great financial benefits. The average salaries in some of the most lucrative undergraduate fields (business, accounting, paralegal, and nursing) range from about $41,000 to about $53,000. On the other hand, MBA graduates in 2010 earned a median salary of about $79,000 not including a $13,000 median sign-up bonus. Moreover, career advancement with an MBA degree tends to be much faster than with only a bachelors degree.

Prospective MBA students searching for MBA programs to which they can apply should consult the Official MBA Guide before deciding on a program. With more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide, the Official MBA Guide is the most comprehensive data base of program information. It is a free public service and features a search engine that enables candidates to specify their preferences and criteria to obtain a ranked list of MBA programs that satisfy their needs.

The best way to fight against these viruses is of course to equip their computer antivirus software performance. It should be noted that the antivirus programs are not infallible and sometimes some malware, very recent, are able to infiltrate. And to remove the machine, it is imperative to use the services of many utilities disinfection.
MBA programs dispensed core courses in the first year, leaving the second for electives and recruiting. But with internship interviews taking place so early, many schools are revising their curriculums so that the bulk of the core courses take place in the first semester.

There is a wide variety of online MBA in IT schools out there, but there's a short list of the best programs available.

2. Things may change with time, so don't risk having your MBA plan derailed. You may plan to pursue an MBA after 2 years of working, but there are too many things that can get in within these 2 years such as family, health problem that causes you to have financial burden, lost of job & etc. that may force you to put aside your MBA plan. You just can't really count on things that yet to happen in the future. Hence, if you have intention to pursue an MBA degree, take the action now.

Pursue an MBA Degree Later

There is no right or wrong argument, but the counter-points for pursuing an MBA later are worth to be considered as well:

1. MBA itself has many concentrations for students to specialize in. Gaining some working experience first will help you to determine the type of MBA concentration that can help the most in your career. For example, if your employment experience triggers a desire to become a CEO in banking industry, you may want to enroll in MBA program that offers concentration in Banking Finance.

2. You do not know whether you really need an MBA until you have entered the workplace. Your working experience will tell you whether you need an MBA degree to boost your career to the highest level or you can achieve it with your current degree.

Gaining Working Experience & Pursuing an MBA - Do It Concurrently

With the available of online education, many MBA programs have been offered online, you have the 3rd choice of pursue an MBA degree while concurrently gaining your working experience. However, working and studying at the same time can be a heavy burden, but you might find that working and study can complement one another, as you work experiences add dimension to what you are learning, and you could also apply what you have learned at school on your job.

Find Your Path to an MBA

The benefits of an MBA degree can be realized regardless of whether you earn the degree before, after, or concurrent with gaining working experience, it depends on the person and the circumstances. So, choose your own path that best suits your needs.

Once you move into a senior operator position you'll be responsible for equipment that actually affects the operation of the reactor.

3. Director of Security (Physical, Personnel, Grounds, et al.)

As a director of security you could be responsible for the security of buildings, grounds or campuses, or even people. At $123,000 average salary this is a high salaried position. You need to be able to figure out the worst possible problems before they happen so you can be ready to avoid it, or take control when it happens. As a director you'll be responsible for training and managing a staff of professionals. There's lots of competition for these jobs and some can be physically dangerous. News: Louisiana Tech University's bachelor of science in nanosystems engineering gets accreditation

Louisiana Tech University's bachelor of science in nanosystems
engineering has become the nation's first undergraduate degree program
in the field of nanoengineering to receive accreditation.

The
program, which is the first of its kind in the U.S., received
accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
(Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). The nanosystems
engineering program was established in 2005 as an interdisciplinary
degree program that provides students with the skills to work with
functional systems at the molecular scale.

"This accreditation
indicates that Louisiana Tech not only offers strong traditional degrees
in engineering and science, but also offers innovative,
forward-looking, cutting-edge programs like nanosystems and biomedical
engineering," said Dr. Stan Napper, dean of the College of Engineering
and Science.

The program utilizes Louisiana Tech's laboratory
resources and interdisciplinary research, education and support
programs, "allowing students to

apply nanotechnology fabrication
techniques, as well as fundamental engineering skills learned through
the integrated freshman and sophomore engineering curricula," according
to a university news release.

The accreditation gives students who
earn a bachelor's degree in the program eligibility to take the
Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and apply to the state engineering
board to become engineers in training.

"It gives some assurance to
the students who are looking at this brand new degree program that the
quality of this degree is just as high as any of our other engineering
degrees," Napper said. "Being the first and the only accredited
nanosystems engineering program in the country, these early graduates
from Louisiana Tech will be recruited by major graduate schools and many
will go on for masters and doctorate degrees."

[wp_campaign_1]

Napper said the degree can be utilized in both traditional industries and newer fields.

"Some
traditional applications include long-standing industries like oil and
gas, chemical processing and even some biomedical technologies," he
said. "It also has applications in newer industries such as the
production of new materials."

Louisiana Tech's nanosystems
engineering program currently has an enrollment of about 70 students and
has had roughly 25 graduates since its launch in 2005.

MBA Survey 2010: Harvard’s MBA Graduates Earn Most in Lifetime

Harvard Business School is the world’s most expensive full-time MBA program, with tuition and required fees eclipsing $106,000 for two years. It pays off: Havard Business School graduates earn more money over the span of their careers than those from any other school. Harvard degree holders earn more than $3.9 million during their careers compared to $3.5 million for those from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton school and $3.3 million for those who got their MBAs from Columbia University, reports Bloomberg BusinessWeek on its website. “It’s the trickle-down effect,” says Robert Dammon , associate dean and professor of financial economics at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh.

The kinds of students that the best schools attract are going to get the highest paying jobs.” With few exceptions, Dammon is correct. The top ranked–and most expensive — MBA programs produce the highest salaried grads over the span of their careers, according to research commissioned by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. For the second year, Bloomberg Businessweek asked PayScale , a company that collects salary data from individuals through online pay comparison tools, to use its database of 23,000 MBA graduates at the top 45 U.S. business schools to calculate their median cash compensation — salaries and bonuses — around graduation and after they have an average of 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of work experience in the same industry. Bloomberg Businessweek then used that data to calculate an estimate of median cash earnings over the entire 20-year span. Lifetime Earnings On average, MBAs from the top 45 business schools will make about $2.5 million in base pay and bonuses over the course of a 20-year career. There are great differences between the total compensation of the schools at the top of the list compared to those closer to the bottom, especially as MBAs move deeper into their careers. An MBA graduate from the Tippie College at The University of Iowa will earn less than half that of a graduate of Harvard, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Newly-minted MBAs at some programs, such as Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, earn high starting salaries, but experience a only a minimal increase over time. At other schools, like the University of Connecticut, MBA grads more than double their salaries over the 20-year timeframe. The numbers don’t include stock or options, and the pay data for some smaller schools at the 20-year mark may be based on fewer than 100 pay reports. They also do not track the same graduates over time; they reflect the experience of individuals who graduated at various points throughout the last 20 years.

Accelerated Bachelor Degree

The accelerated bachelor's degree is designed for students who have an existing associate degree or who have partial college credits that are transferable. An accelerated bachelor's degree is an undergraduate degree that is
available either at campus based colleges and universities or through
online schools.

The accelerated bachelor's degree is also for students who hold a bachelor's degree in another major and perhaps want a career change or another undergraduate degree. Students who do not have any previous college credit can also obtain an accelerated bachelor's degree in approximately 3 years as opposed to the typical 4 years. Some schools even offer accelerated bachelor's degrees combined with a master's degree.Accelerated bachelor's degrees are offered for a variety of areas of study including business, education, health care, or technology. Accelerated programs, whether on campus or online, are for the motivated, self-disciplined student.

Online programs utilize a student's computer and the Internet, and classes are often completed one at a time over a 5 to 8 week period. On campus accelerated programs typically combine Internet learning and more flexible class times to accommodate students.Earning an accelerated bachelor's degree is a valuable move for the individual seeking a career change, a promotion, faster entrance into the job market, or graduate school.

Loans for Sudents - Blessing or Curse?

Loans for education can be a blessing but also a curse to college students . Loans for students allow them to have the fund they need in many cases to attend university at all.On the other hand, most college students, particularly those entering college for the first time have inflated opinions of their starting salaries upon graduation and the bills they will face while living in the real world. In fact, most freshmen college students have no real concept of the limits of money in which to base their decisions as to whether or not they can realistically expect to repay those funds after graduate.

The bad things, in many cases, that many college graduates find that during first 10-15 yearsafter graduation, they are essentially indentured servants to their debts from student loans. Many reasons for this:

(a) those taking out student loans need to understand that a college degree does not guarantee a high starting salary
(b) there is no 100% guaranteed you could be hired after you have graduated from schools or college with a degree in hand.
(c) that most college graduated could not find a job up to a year and if so, the paycheck is less than what they expected.

Should I Pursue MBA Degree?

An MBA is a broader, practical oriented degree covering all aspects of a business (Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Operations) and then allowing you to specialize in your desired major. An MBA holds more value in the job market as students completing this course are already qualified with prior work experience. The leading business schools worldwide require above 3 years of work experience. Hence, I would recommend you to work for more years and gather more work experience which will strengthen your profile and help your admissions in a good B-school.

You will need to take GMAT and TOEFL for admission. For more information on these exams refer to the 'Prep Talks' and 'Test Drives' sections on www.educationtimes.com. Have a look the top 100 business schools offering the MBA, listed on www.ft.com. With regards to the admission procedure, you will be required to do the following: appear for the entrance tests, finalize your schools, complete the online application form and then mail the supporting documents (such as resume, recommendation letters, essays, financial documents, mark sheets, transcripts) to the university. Remember to start applying to universities at least 1 year prior to the course starting date.
