NUMERICAL APPROXIMATION AND ANALYSIS OF INTEGRO-PDES WITH APPLICATIONS IN FINANCE
A PhD grant is available at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The grant, which is for three years, is funded by the Research Council of Norway. The grant period may be extended to four years in exchange for teaching duties at the department.
The PhD project focuses on development and analysis (theory) of numerical methods for integro-partial differential equations and applications in finance. Related theoretical topics as boundary values and regularity of solutions may be considered additionally. The PhD candidate will participate in the activities of the Integro-PDEs: Numerical methods, Analysis, and Applications project which is based at NTNU and at the University of Oslo.

Beyond fulfilling degree requirements at the University of Hawaii, East-West Center students are required to take part in the Center`s education program. These requirements include:
- Core Program that meets weekly during the fall semester.
- Spring Core Issues Course, which will consist of a series of presentations and small-group discussions.
- Community Service. Degree Fellows are expected to devote 90 hours to community service during their award period.
- Involvement in an EWC Research Project.
- Interdisciplinary Certificate. Students not involved in an EWC research project must pursue one of several interdisciplinary certificates (http://www.eastwestcenter.org/semedu-program.asp?program_ID=45&Topic;=Student&Area;=Education).
- Language Requirement. Degree Fellows who are native speakers of English from

3. Aquaculture Virologist / Biologist, epidemiology WSSV in cultured shrimp,
Job description: The PhD student will study the epidemiology and evolution of white spot syndromevirus (WSSV) of shrimp in time and space, with special reference to the development towards (a)virulence. The study will be a combination of ‘in-pond’ and laboratory analysis (natural and controlled introductions) of WSSV isolates, local and regional field sampling, virulence testing and genetic and genomic analysis using molecular markers. The PhD will closely cooperate with the other PhD students in the project and especially the PhD population biologist.
Requirements: You are a virology / epidemiology specialist (MSc degree) with experience in
molecular genetics. Preferably, you have experience with or affinity to shrimp culture or other aquatic practices. You can design sampling schemes and animal experiments, and use and tailor molecular technology. We prefer candidates that have computational expertise (bioinformatics) and with a scientific publication record. The position is open for S.E. Asian citizens only.
4. Population Biologist, transmission of WSSV in cultured shrimp,
Job description: The PhD student will study the transmission of White Spot Syndrome Virus in
cultured shrimp by experiments, field observations and modelling. We aim to understand the
dynamics of the disease by identifying the main factors that cause clinical disease outbreaks. These factors will include the introduction of the virus into the ponds and the conditions under which it can spread within and between ponds. The PhD will closely cooperate with the other PhD students in the project and especially the PhD virologist.
Requirements:
You have a MSc degree in population biology, aquaculture or mathematical biology. You are familiar with population biology, experimental research but also attracted by mathematical

5. Aquatic biologist or aquaculture specialist, shrimp-life support system,

The PhD student will study the relationship between water and sediment quality and
shrimp health in ponds. The study will be a combination of on-farm monitoring and controlled
mesocosm experiments. Important environmental parameters will include O2, NO2 and TAN
concentrations at different heights or depths above and in the sediment. The distribution of pathogens in the culture environment will be analysed and linked to environmental conditions.
Requirements
You are an aquatic ecologist or aquaculture specialist (MSc degree) with experience in water quality and sediment analysis in aquatic environments. Preferentially, you have experience with shrimp culture practices. You can set up monitoring programs and are able to operate and maintain

There are 12 vacant scholarships for PhD-students at the Department
of Management, Economics, and Industrial Engineering of
Politecnico di Milano. One of the scholarship is reserved to non
Italian students. The other 11 scholarships are open to both Italian

The scholarships are for three years. They will start on 1-1-2007. They
