VLIR-UOS Scholarship for Training and Masters Studies in Belgium

VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from Africa, Asia and Latin-America to follow a training or master programme at a Dutch speaking university or university college in Belgium. The eligible training or master programmes are taught in English. They are designed for people in positions of responsibility in civil society.

The scholarships cover all related expenses. For application, please visit the website of the training or master programme. You can apply for a scholarship from October 2012 (master programmes) or November 2012 (master programmes organised at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and all training programmes). The deadline for application for the master programmes: 1 February 2013; for training programmes: check the programme websites.

The mission of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is to produce graduates who are capable of taking a leadership position in the broad aspects of electrical engineering and computer science.  Their graduates:

  • Understand the basic principles that underlie modern electrical, electronic and computational technology;

  • Are able to apply creatively their understanding of science and engineering principles to the solution of problems arising in whatever career path they choose;

Academic Program

Undergraduate students in the department take a common core of two subjects that serves as their introduction to electrical engineering and computer science. They then systematically build up broad foundations and depth in selected intellectual theme areas that match their individual interests. This is done through a small set of foundation subjects, on top of which students select a set of header subjects that build on the foundations, and lay further foundation for exploration in a selected set of intellectual themes. Laboratory subjects, independent projects, and research opportunities provide engagement with principles and techniques of analysis, design, and experimentation in a variety of fields. The department also offers a range of programs that enable students to gain experience in industrial settings, ranging from collaborative industrial projects done on campus to term-long experiences at partner companies.

Graduate study in the department moves students towards mastery of areas of individual interest, through course work and significant research, often defined in interdisciplinary areas that take advantage of the tremendous range of faculty expertise in the department and, more broadly, across MIT.

Given the breadth of faculty within EECS, the department pursues a wide range of research topics. These range from theoretical computer science, computer systems and architecture, graphics, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, computational applications in medicine, computational biology, communications, information theory, control systems, large scale systems analysis, circuits, devices, power and energy, numerical computing, novel materials for devices, nanotechnology, manufacturing, biotechnology, speech and hearing, prosthetic devices, analog and hybrid circuits and devices, and many, many more.

What Carriers are For Masters and Doctorals in Psychology?

A number of psychology and psychology-related career options that require graduate degrees, including:

University Teaching and Research. If you're interested in teaching undergraduate, master's-level, or doctoral-level students, you will probably work in a university setting, where you will probably also do research. If you are not interested in teaching and want to focus on research, you can work for government agencies (for example, the Centers for Disease Control) or for private research organizations. To work as a psychologist in these settings, you typically will need a Ph.D. in psychology--not in another field such as education or social work.

Applied Work. Psychologists in selected subfields have the option not only of teaching (sharing knowledge) and research (generating knowledge) but also of working in settings in which they apply their knowledge. These subfields include clinical psychology, counseling psychology, forensic psychology, health psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and sports psychology  School psychology is also one of these applied areas.

Clinical Psychology. Clinical psychologists assess and treat people with psychological problems. They may act as therapists for people who are experiencing normal psychological crises (e.g., grief) or for individuals suffering from chronic psychiatric disorders. Some clinical psychologists are generalists who work with a wide variety of populations, while others work with specific groups such as children, the elderly, or those with specific disorders (e.g., eating disorders).

Counseling Psychology. Counseling psychologists do many of the same things that clinical psycholgists do. However, counseling psychologists tend to focus more on persons with adjustment problems rather than on persons suffering from severe psychological disorders. They may be trained in psychology departments or in education departments. Counseling psycholgists are employed in academic settings, college counseling centers, community mental health centers, and private practice.

Numerous scholarships are awarded to TU Delft admitted students with exceptional promise and outstanding academic achievement by the university, specific faculties, departments and industry partners. Consideration for these scholarships requires students to have been admitted to their MSc programme. There is typically no separate application procedure. Selected scholarship recipients will be notified directly by the university.
