COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN (CSFP)

The Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan are awarded by the Malaysian Government to the nominated students from the Commonwealth countries to study at the post-graduate level in Malaysia. This is a Government to Government scheme without any bond imposed by Malaysia. The awards for Mastersdegree are between 12 to 24 months depending on the courses. Awards for pursuing PhD degree are for 3 years. The Awards are only applicable for candidates pursuing full-time degree programme in Malaysia.

To be eligible for COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN (CSFP), applicants must fit the following criteria:-

1. Not be more than 45 years of age during application.
2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
3. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
   1. IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
   2. TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
4. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants
5. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to field of studies.
6. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).

Each scholarship consists of:-

Amsterdam Merit Scholarships, Amsterdam Law School

The Faculty of Law - Amsterdam Law School - aims to attract talented students to its LL.M. programmes. Amsterdam Merit Scholarships are available for those who completed their LL.B. degree with flying colours.

Eligibility

Outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship when they meet the following criteria:

1.  Having completed an LL.B. degree with an average grade of 7,5 (on a scale from 1-10) and being admitted to one of the LL.M. programmes of the Amsterdam Law School.


2. No more than five years should have elapsed between obtaining the LL.B. degree and start of the LL.M. programme.


3. Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who already obtained an LL.M. or any other master degree nor to applicants who have been granted another scholarship.

The eligibility assessment will be made on the basis of your AMS motivation letter, average grade, resume, motivation letter and letters of reference regarding your academic qualities.

If the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships that can be awarded, only the most outstanding candidates will be awarded a scholarship.

How to apply?

Applicants should write an AMS motivation letter (tell us in not more than 300 words your motivation to get the scholarship), addressed to the Director of the Amsterdam Law School, Dr. M.Y.A. Zieck.

This letter should be accompanied with the other required application documents:

When to apply?

The application should be sent before April 1, 2014 with respect to a scholarship for the academic year 2014-2015.

Selection

Only students who are admitted to one of the LL.M. programmes of the Amsterdam Law School can be awarded a scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of academic merit. Decisions as to eligibility for award of a scholarship are made in June 2014. Applicants will be informed before July 1, 2014.

The scholarship

The scholarship consists of either 6000, € 9000 or € 12.000. In the first month of study - September 2014 - the student will be paid 1000 €. The remainder of the scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly instalments. Note that the scholarship can not be used by way of (partial) tuition waiver: the applicant has to pay the full amount of the tuition due (12000 €).

 

Conditions

1. Amsterdam Merit Scholarships are only awarded toapplicants who are admitted to one of the LL.M. programmes of the Faculty of Law - Amsterdam Law School.


2. A scholarship granted for the academic year 2014-2015 can not be transferred to another academic year. Failing to enrol in the LL.M. programme to which the applicant has been admitted when the programme actually starts in September 2014 entails forfeiture of the scholarship.


3. Amsterdam Merit Scholarships are not available to those who have been granted another full scholarship.


4. Students who are awarded an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship are expected to complete the LL.M. programme to which they have been admitted within one year (30 EC per semester) and otherwise maintain good academic standing: the scholarship may be terminated when the student does not obtain 30 EC in the first semester.


5. Students who are granted an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship are required to assent to the conditions attached to the scholarship in writing preceding the grant of the scholarship.

The Scholarship for 2 year Research Master programmes

Students enrolled in the Research Master who are granted a Merit Scholarship will be evaluated after one year of study. If the student has 50 EC on August 1, and has a positive recommendation of the coordinator of the programme, the scholarship will be continued for one more year.

Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI), Australia

Adelaide Scholarships International are available in each of the four scholarship rounds to outstanding international applicants from any country who have a First Class Honours result or equivalent, to support their study towards a Higher Degree by Research. Awards are available in all Discipline areas.

The selection and ranking of applicants within the University of Adelaide is undertaken by the Graduate Scholarships Committee, using the criteria of academic merit and research potential.

The ASI provides

• Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only),


• An annual living allowance ($25,392 in 2014) for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only), and


• If the award holder holds a subclass 574 visa the award covers the cost of compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the period of the scholarship. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

Note. The scholarship does NOT cover visa application fees.

Conditions and Eligibility Criteria

• In order to be eligible applicants are required to have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree (this is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year). All qualifying programs of study must be successfully completed.


• Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and research potential. Extra-curricular achievements are not considered.


• International applicants must not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.


• International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting the minimum English language proficiency requirements for direct entry by the scholarship closing date, or who have completed a Pre-Enrolment English Program to meet the entry requirements for the intended program of study, are not eligible.


• Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.


• Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.


• Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as 'international students' and must maintain 'international student' status for the duration of their enrolment in the University.


• Candidates who have applied for Australian permanent resident status can apply for ASI scholarships.


• International applicants are not eligible if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply in the previous round.


• Scholarships holders must commence study at the University of Adelaide in the semester the scholarship is offered.


• Applicants who applied and were eligible for consideration in an international scholarship round, and were unsuccessful, will automatically be reconsidered in the following international scholarship round, assuming they hold a valid offer of candidature for that intake. An applicant who has been considered in 2 rounds cannot be reconsidered in any future scholarship rounds.


• The offer of a scholarship is contingent upon a student not being offered another award by the Commonwealth of Australia, the University of Adelaide, or an overseas sponsor. The University reserves the right to withdraw an offer of a scholarship at any time prior to enrolment if it is advised that an awardee has been offered a scholarship equal to or in excess of the financial value of the award offered by the University.

Generally applicants who succeed in winning an ASI scholarship have completed a Masters degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience.

International Climate Protection Fellowships the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The global challenge posed by climate change can only be met by cross-border international collaborations. This programme makes a contribution to this by enabling future decision-makers and multipliers to conduct a research-based project in cooperation with specialist colleagues in Germany. Funding is available for project proposals which address issues directly relating to climate protection as well as adaptation to climate change, e.g. in the area of climate-related resource conservation. The project should facilitate the mutual exchange of knowledge, methods and techniques between the fellows and their hosts in Germany, taking into account the question of practical applicability in the fellows’ countries. Contacts to various institutions in different sectors (universities, research institutes, ministries, environmental authorities, companies, non-governmental organizations, etc.) in the context of the project are expressly welcomed. In addition to financing the project, the fellowship aims to facilitate and promote the development of long-term contacts and collaborations with colleagues in Germany.

In the course of group programme events (introductory seminar, training courses, final meeting) during the fellowship year, fellows should gain an overview of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation as well as the important actors in these fields in Germany. Another objective of the programme is to create cross-border, cross-disciplinary networks amongst the fellows as a precondition for building an international expert network on climate protection and climate-related resource conservation. As a long term objective, networking should be extended to include scientists working in these fields in the respective countries who are members of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s network of excellence.

The following timetable for the one-year stay in Germany is designed to facilitate networking amongst the fellows and is mandatory for everyone:
- January, February 2015: intensive language course in Germany (optional)
- March 2015: introductory seminar – April 2015
- February 2016: work on project at host institutes in Germany – June 2015: Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Annual Meeting including reception held by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany – Autumn 2015: several-day training course
- January/February 2016: final week including reception held by the leadership of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Fellowships may be extended by up to three months on application.

he fellowship amount reflects the fellow’s academic and professional qualifications, current position and professional experience and is currently set at 2,150 EUR, 2,450 EUR or 2,750 EUR per month. This includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution towards health and liability insurance.
Allowance for research costs to be paid to the hosts in Germany amounting to 800 EUR per month (for projects in the natural and engineering sciences) and 500 EUR (for projects in the humanities and social sciences); Language fellowship for a one- to two-month intensive language course in Germany immediately prior to the start of the fellowship; when a fellowship has been granted, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation may provide financial support for improving fellows’ language skills while they are still in their own countries.
Fellows with little or no knowledge of German are strongly advised to take a two-month intensive language course in Germany;
-Lump sum for the fellow’s travel expenses if the costs are not borne by a third party;
-Europe allowance for a maximum of one to two months spent studying or researching at an institution in another European country during the fellowship, provided that this is necessary to carry out the project in question.
-Family allowances for visits by family members lasting at least three months (up to 326 EUR per month for the marital partner and up to 234 EUR per month for each child);
-For single parents accompanied by children under the age of 18 on stays of at least three months, an allowance is available (400 EUR per month for the first child, 100 EUR for every additional child);
-Additional extension of the fellowship by up to three months if children under 12 also accompany the fellow to Germany;
-Extensive alumni funding after successfully completing the stay in Germany, especially support for networking with collaborative partners in Germany during the fellow’s entire career.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong's institutions.

Chevening Scholarships UK for 2014/2015

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The MTCP Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies provides opportunities for students to pursue advanced academic study in Malaysia. This scholarship is a Government-to-Government basis, without any bond imposed by Malaysia. GENERAL CONDITION OF AWARD

1. Scholarship holder must undertake full-time studies for postgraduate studies at a campus of Malaysian Universities.It is the responsibility of the scholarship holders to confirm admission to the university.


2. Scholarship holders must not change their programme during tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from their university and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.


3. Scholarship holders must follow the approved programmes and abide by the university’s rules, regulations and codes of conduct.


4. Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of award. Monthly allowances are not payable during suspension, including suspension due to illness.


5. It is the responsibility of successful candidates to apply for and meet the requirements for the issuing of an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. The offer of the scholarship does not guarantee the granting of a visa.


6. Scholarship holders must maintain satisfactory progress and good standing as stipulated by their host university and degree programme, or the scholarship will be withdrawn.


7. The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian universities and research must be carried out in Malaysia.


8. Scholarship holders are not allowed to take any paid employment during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university.
