Scholarships from The Asian Scholarship Foundation

he Asian Scholarship Foundation is located in Bangkok, Thailand. Its office address is at the 4th Floor, Vanissa Building, Chidlom, Ploenchit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330. It has affiliate offices in Beijing and New Delhi, and partner offices in Hanoi, Jakarta and Manila. The Foundation was placed under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand on April 27, 2007.

FUNDING AND ADMINISTRATION

ASF is funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation. Its office in Bangkok administers the ASIA Fellows Awards in the region with assistance from its affiliate and partner offices in Beijing, New Delhi, Manila, Hanoi, and Jakarta.

The ASF Board Management Committee (BMC) is composed of twelve educational and public leaders from the Northeast, South and Southeast Asia. The BMC selects the ASF fellows, oversees the program and makes policy decisions on behalf of the Board of Directors.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The principal goal of the ASIA Fellows Awards is to increase the overall awareness of intellectual resources in the countries of Northeast , South and Southeast Asia and to contribute to the growth of long-range capabilities for cross-regional knowledge sharing. The ASIA Fellows Awards seek to develop regional expertise, to establish a multilateral network of Asian specialists from many disciplines, professional fields and countries, to stimulate interdisciplinary research and inter-societal comparison and to contribute to new developments within existing area studies communities.

The awards offer opportunities for outstanding young and mid-career level Asian scholars and professionals to gain knowledge of the countries in the region and a better understanding of the contexts that shape global and regional issues through research. They enable the awardees to conduct research in a participating Asian country for six to nine months.

FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES

ASIA Fellows awardees are placed at top-ranking research universities and non-academic institutions such as museums, archives or think tanks. Fellows are encouraged to identify preferred placements in their host countries. They are expected to engage in an organized field research in their selected host country.

Research projects must focus on only one country. Fellows are strongly encouraged to undertake some language training in their host country as part of facilitating their research project. They are also provided the opportunities to present guest lectures or to conduct seminars and workshops at the invitation of their host institutions.

Fellows may also apply for short-term travel awards to present their research results at overseas conferences and meetings.
All fellows are required to attend the Orientation Program and the ASIA Fellows’ Annual Conference in July each year where they present their research results to fellow awardees and to scholars from the country in which the conference is held. They are also required to start their work by the end of December each year. At the end of the fellowship, fellows must submit to the ASF office in Bangkok evidence of the results of their research project in the form of publications, photos or artistic works, audio/ video productions, etc.

International Scholarships at the Elite Network of Bavaria - Gemany

The scholarships are granted as part of excellence programs. Apart from interdisciplinary, career-related events, which also develop the students’ personalities at the same time, and events that promote networking and internationalism, the awarding of stipends is the core of the support.

The research scholarship holders receive assistance with their living costs in the form of a monthly stipend. The basic sum is 900 Euros for graduate students and 1,080 Euros for postgraduates. A family allowance of up to 154 Euros can be granted upon request on the condition that the scholarship holder shares care and custody of at least one child with his/her unemployed partner or on the condition that the scholarship holder is the single parent of at least one child. If the scholarship holder's own income exceeds an allowance of 350 Euros, then the financial benefits will be reduced by the amount of the excess. The scholarship will be paid at the end of each month, the amount being rounded up to the nearest whole Euro. There is no payment of amounts below 50 Euros. If the research project is interrupted, the payment of the scholarship will be suspended.

Additional benefits

Besides the scholarship and the participation in a special event program, the research scholarship holders may receive a special allowance for the costs of materials (printing costs excluded) and travel if theses are necessary for the research project and the scholarship holder cannot be expected to meet them. Travel costs will be paid for a time span of up to three months.

Duty of cooperation

A prerequisite for a scholarship to be lawfully awarded is that the applicant or scholarship holder, as applicable, fulfils their obligation to cooperate. Accordingly, they must report all facts that are relevant in relation to the scholarship and agree that third parties may divulge the information required on request. Furthermore, changes in circumstance which are relevant to the scholarship or about which declarations have been made in connection with the scholarship must be reported immediately and/or confirmation provided, and if requested documentary confirmation must be presented or consent given for it to be provided. ENS Lyon International Master Fellowships

The ENS Lyon organizes an international selection for Master studies exclusively reserved for foreign participants. This selection is aimed at the most outstanding recent graduates and students currently in their final year of undergraduate studies. Candidates may apply for the first or second year of master studies. If accepted, they then become ENS Lyon International Students and receive a monthly allowance of 1,000 euros. The scholarship is awarded for one academic year and is renewable for a second year in order to obtain a Master. Renewal depends on the participants academic achievement.

To apply for the International Master Fellowship you must have completed 180 ECTS credits or the equivalent at the moment of your arrival in France.
However, you can enter the ENS Lyon as a student in the first year "premaster" program. To do this you have two options:
  1. Admission after taking and passing the second entrance exam (deuxième concours). The exam requires enough French to at least understand the questions, though the response may be written in English. Candidates who pass the exam and are European union citizens become normaliens (students of the ENS with full privileges) and receive a monthly salary. In exchange, normaliens commit to a ten year civil service engagement, beginning the first year of their studies. More information
  2. Admission as an auditeur (based on an application). Students accepted as auditeurs take the same courses as normaliens, but do not receive a salary and are not held to a civil service engagement. More information
Of the two choices above, only the first permits students to finance their studies.

To apply for an International Master Fellowship, send a completed application form along with all the necessary documents to our office before the deadline.
