IPRS Scholarships - RMIT, Australia

If you are an international student commencing a higher degree by research (masters or PhD) at RMIT in 2013, the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship could pay your tuition fees for the normal duration of your program.

Value and duration

The scholarship provides tuition fees and the cost of an Overseas Student Health Cover policy for the duration of your program. (This is normally three years for a research doctorate degree and two years for a research master degree.)

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

be an international student, hold an Australian student visa for the term of the scholarship and comply with the conditions of the visa

have achieved excellent academic results

have been offered a place in a higher degree research program at an Australian RMIT campus commencing in 2013

have been offered a place that is not conditional on meeting English language requirements OR provide evidence of English language proficiency and meet the English language requirement of the HDR program before the closing date of the scholarship application

not already hold a research qualification equivalent to an Australian research doctorate or research masters (if applicable)

willing to be an ambassador for the Research Scholarships

be studying in one of RMIT’s areas of research strengths

Provide details of any external funding for tuition or living expenses that you have received or applied for.

There are additional eligibility requirements for IPRS which are listed below.

You must:

be an overseas student as defined in the Act

meet the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s international student visa requirements - this includes purchasing and maintaining a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy approved by the Commonwealth Government of Health and Ageing

not have held an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship in the two years before taking up the IPRS

not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution

not have previously received an IPRS for a research doctorate unless you are converting to a research masters degree under paragraph 3.25.15 of these Guidelines

not have previously received an IPRS for a research masters degree, unless you have completed your masters and are immediately undertaking a research doctorate degree or you have converted your IPRS under paragraph 3.25.15 of these guidelines.

RMIT may also consider you if:

you commenced your HDR program in Semester 1 or 2 2012, but applied for the program after the 2012 IPRS closing date (28/10/2011)

you are a non-RMIT student who commenced an HDR program at another eligible institution but terminated your enrolment within six months of starting

you are applying for or have received external funding for your living expenses.

Preference will be given to students from Asia, Europe, North and Latin America and the Middle East.

Scholarship applications are now closed, when application opens in 2013 (for 2014 rounds) please complete the online application form and upload your supporting documents:

a copy of your offer letter from RMIT University

official certified copies of all academic transcripts, including a university explanation of the grading system. Please send copies in English and the original language (where applicable)

a certified copy of graduation certificate

evidence of English language proficiency (applicable for offer letter conditional on English)

your research proposal outlining the objective, methodology and expected outcomes (no less than 200 words)

a statement indicating why you wish to undertake this research

your resume (Curriculum Vitae)

evidence of your employment history on a company letterhead (if applicable)

a copy of any relevant publications, unpublished thesis or essays you have completed (if applicable)

a letter from any scholarship provider (if applicable)

two Academic Referee Reports

a certified copy of your passport and visa (if applicable)

For Art and Design related programs (if applicable), please also include: a portfolio of 12 slides or a CD Rom including annotation introducing the work

If you have received a firm offer or a conditional offer that does not stipulate the English pre-requisite you do not have to provide an IELTS or TOEFL test

Please make sure you submit all the necessary documentation before the closing date. You may wish to include extra documents to support your application.

We cannot return your documents or portfolio items to you.

We will inform you by the end of December 2012 to confirm whether you have been awarded a scholarship.

Terms and conditions

As the holder of this scholarship you must:

commence your studies by 31 August 2013

not defer your studies to another year

apply again the following year if you are unable to take up your award.

Successful applicants usually become members of a research team working under the direction of senior researchers.

If you have dependants, the IPRS will provide an Overseas Student Health Cover policy to cover them too.

Applicants will be informed by email of the results by the end of December 2012.

As a guide, RMIT University requires the following English language requirements for entry into research programs:

IELTS - 6.5+ (no band less than 6.0)

TOEFL – Paper based = 580+ (TWE4.5+)

TOEFL – Computer based = 237+ (TWE4.5+)

REW – English for Academic Purposes Advanced 2

Your IELTS/TOEFL result must be current, i.e. you took the test no more than two years before your research program commences.

Your RMIT English test result must also be current i.e. you took the test no more than one year before your research program commences.

Some programs have higher English language requirements.

IPRS Scholarships - Adelaide University, Australia

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Its purpose is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in higher education institutions to support Australia's research effort. Approximately 15 scholarships may be available in 2014 for international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in areas of University research strengths.

The IPRS provides:

Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only);

All successful IPRS applicants will also receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) which provides an annual living allowance of approximately $24,653 (2013 value) for the normal duration of the program; and

If the award holder holds a subclass 574 visa the award covers the cost of compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the period of the scholarship. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

Commonwealth scholarship holders are exempt from visa application fees.

Applicants should hold at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree. This is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year. Other criteria that will be taken into consideration is undergraduate performance, bachelor and honours awards and scholarships, other postgraduate degrees, publications in refereed journals, the presentation of conference papers and relevant industry experience.

Applications for these scholarships are always highly competitive. Generally IPRS recipients have completed a Masters degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience.

Conditions

IPRS Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and to applicants applying research strength. Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered.

Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.

Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.

Candidates who have applied for Australian permanent resident status are ineligible to apply.

International applicants are not eligible for an IPRS if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply for an IPRS in the previous international major scholarship round.

International applicants must not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.

International applicants who have not provided satisfactory evidence of their meeting the University's minimum English language proficiency requirements for direct entry by the closing date are not eligible for an IPRS.

Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as 'international students' and must maintain 'international student' status for the duration of their enrolment in the University.

To be eligible for an IPRS scholarship a student must not have held an AusAID scholarship within the 2 years prior to commencing the IPRS, and not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Commonwealth Government makes a substantial contribution.

Scholarships holders must commence study at The University of Adelaide in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2014. No IPRS may be commenced after 31 August.

Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer commencement until 2015.

Applicants who applied in previous international major scholarship rounds are not eligible to apply again.

The offer of an IPRS-APA scholarship is contingent upon a student not being offered another award by the Commonwealth of Australia, The University of Adelaide, or an overseas sponsor. The University reserves the right to withdraw an offer of a scholarship at any time prior to enrolment if it is advised that a awardee has been offered a scholarship equal to or in excess of the financial value of the award offered by the University

Closing Date: 31 August 2013. We strongly recommend that all applicants submit their application and all required documents well before the closing date. Incomplete applications at the scholarship application deadline will not be considered for a scholarship.

Applicants will be notified by email by the end of November 2013 regarding the outcome of their scholarship application.

The IPRS Scholarships Australia

The IPRS award provides for the full cost of tuition and overseas student health cover. The award may not provide for other fees charged by the University from time to time.

UWS also provides a living allowance - A$24,653 per annum in 2013 - indexed annually and paid fortnightly.

Tenure

The tenure of both the award and the living allowance is three years for doctoral candidates and two years for Masters Honours (research masters) candidates.

Eligibility

Students from any overseas country, except New Zealand, who are commencing a new research degree course and do not already hold an equivalent degree are eligible to apply. Applicants for coursework awards are not eligible to apply, even where there is a research component in the degree. Students who have already commenced their research degree may not be eligible.

Current AusAID students are ineligible.

Closing Date

Applications close on Friday 16 August 2013.

How will my application be ranked?

Applicants eligible for consideration for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship will be ranked by the UWS Research Committee Scholarship Panel, following recommendation from the host School of the Research Centre or Research Group.

Eligible applicants will:

have an academic record at least equivalent to an Australian 1st Class Bachelor Honours degree. This is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year, with a score of at least 80 per cent.

be supervised in one of UWS’s areas of research concentration

University College Maastricht (UCM) - Scholarships, The Netherlands

UCM Scholarship
University College Maastricht (UCM) will give financial support to five highly qualified non-EU students who will be invited to enroll at UCM.

Who is eligible?
Applicants must be accepted to the Liberal Arts & Sciences program of UCM and must come from a country outside the EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining a Dutch visa (‘MVV’ residence permit).

Fees

This scholarship will be used to reduce the institutional fee (in 2013-2014: € 9.500) to the statutory fee (€ 1.835) for the duration of the UCM program (three consecutive years).

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must indicate so in the section 'Additional information' on the online adobe application form (in My UM). Furthermore, applicants must fill out the application form and send in the requested annexes as mentioned in the form. You can download the application form here.
