DTU Physics invites interested and highly skilled candidates to apply for a number of vacant PhD positions.

The subject of the PhD project must be within one of the main research areas of the department:

• Atomic scale materials design


• Biophysics and complex systems


• Experimental surface and nanomaterials physics


• Quantum physics and information technology


• Catalysis for sustainable energy


• Fusion and Plasma Physics


• Neutrons and X-rays for materials Physics

Please indicate whether your application is based on a contact with a supervisor with a pre-defined project or if you apply broadly within the activities at DTU Physics.

Qualifications
The preferred candidate has (or expects to obtain no later than 31 August 2013) a master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Nanotechnology or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Approval and Enrollment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrollment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and appointment terms
Starting date is 1 August 2013 or soon thereafter. The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.

Scholarships at The University of Southern Denmark

In-house grants

This is an overview of the university’s own in-house grants and foundations with a more detailed description of the purpose and application deadline for individual grants.

Deadlines for applications for grants are set for a variety of dates during the course of the year and made public on noticeboards in Sonderborg, Kolding, Esbjerg, Slagelse, Copenhagen, Flensborg, on the Campustorvet (or Campus Market Place) in Odense and on the University of Southern Denmark’s (SDU) homepage.

Grants should only be applied for once applications have been invited.

A standard application form should be used.

The Fuhrmann Foundation (Application form)

Purpose:

To support basic scientific research in molecular biology and molecular aspects of the biology of the nervous system. The grant will be given to support young researcher’s studying abroad and to support researchers from abroad on a visit to the Institute for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern Denmark.

Applications:

The deadline for applications will be determined by the foundation management every February.

Applications with attachments should be submitted in 4 copies.

The University of Denmark’s Research Foundation

Purpose:

To support university purposes that are not normally expected to be covered by ordinary central funding or grants. In rare instances grants can be given for apparatus. Grants are primarily directed at young researchers (e.g. PhD students, post docs and assistant professors) and can only in exceptional cases be used for student projects. Support for residential expenses relating to PhD students’ long-term study abroad will only be considered in special cases.

Applications:

Applications are invited annually in September/October by means of a notice posted on the Campus Market Place, Odense and on noticeboards in Sonderborg, Kolding, Esbjerg and Flensborg.

Applications with attachments should be sent in 10 copies.

The Manufacturer Knud Abildgaard’s Foundation

Purpose:

To offer support for the provision of reasonable living standards for students of Natural and Health Studies at The University of Southern Denmark. Students who have just embarked on their studies, or students who conclude their studies in the coming session of examinations should not expect to receive grant aid.

Applications:

Applications are invited annually in September by means of a message in ‘OBS’ and of notices on the Campus Market Place and on noticeboards in Sonderborg, Kolding, Esbjerg and Flensborg.

Applications should be submitted in 6 copies. A special application form should be used, which can be downloaded here.

MSc in Engineering Scholarships, The University of Southern Denmark

Tere are a few scholarship schemes at the University of Southern Denmark. The largest one is the Danish Government Scholarship – supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education.

Through this scheme the Faculty of Engineering offers scholarships to highly qualified students enrolled in the following two-year master degree study programmes:

• MSc in IT Product Design (Campus Soenderborg)

The scholarship covers all tuition fees. Students must be able to finance living expenses.

Who can get the scholarship?

Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees.
The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants to the above mentioned master degree study programmes.

Selection criteria

The best qualified candidates based on grades and a motivated application will be awarded the scholarship.

Application and application deadline

To be considered for the scholarship an application form and a motivated application must be submitted with the required documentation as described in the application form.

Applicants for the study programme who have not applied for the scholarship separately may be considered for a scholarship if someone who has been awarded a scholarship cancel his/her application.

Scholarship programmes Aalborg University, Denmark

Scholarship programmes are action programmes intended to promote student mobility. These action programmes have associated scholarships, which are intended to make it financially possible for students to go abroad for a study period by partly covering additional expenses which such a stay entails.

Within these programmes, Aalborg University has entered student exchange contracts and cooperation agreements with a large number of educational institutions.

It is possible to receive financial support through the following scholarship programmes:

• The Erasmus Programme


• The Nordplus Programme


• The Cultural Agreement Programme

The Erasmus Programme

The Erasmus programme is an EU scholarship programme for EU students within all academic fields who wish to carry out parts of their education at another European institution of higher education. The scholarship is of minimum the same amount as what you would have been able to receive thorugh the AAU Internationalisation Pool had you not been affiliated with a Erasmus programme.

The requirements for scholarship eligibility are the following;

• You are an EU citizen


• You have completed at least the first year of your education


• The duration of the stay is between 3 – 12 months


• You can get credit transfer for your study period abroad (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at AAU)


• The scholarship is not used for tuition fees


• A bilateral agreement between the two institutions is anvailable


• A 'Learning Agreement' or a contract has been signed

Please fill in the application form no later than 1st of March, regardless whether your stay abroad commences in the autumn semester of the same calendar year or in the spring semester of the following calendar year.

The Nordplus Programme

The Nordplus programme is an exchange and scholarship programme under the Nordic Council of Ministers targeted at students at Nordic universities etc. who wish to carry out parts of their education at an institution of higher education in another Nordic country, i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. Nordplus scholarships are intended to cover extra expenses in connection with a foreign stay and as a supplement to travel expenses. The allocated amount is approximately DKK 7,000 per semester for no more than one full year of studies.

In order to be eligible for a Norplus scholarship, it is furthermore a requirement that AAU and the foreign educational institution have entered a cooperation agreement. AAU has entered such agreements with most of the Nordic universities within all academic fields. As to students within engineering and surveying, AAU has entered agreements with the other 14 Nordic universities of technology.

The requirements for scholarship eligibility are as follows;

• Aalborg University and the host institution have entered a cooperation agreement


• You can get credit transfer for your study period abroad (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at AAU)


• Your study activities are full-time

The Cultural Agreement Programme

Along with a number of other countries, Denmark has entered bilateral student exchange agreements. Scholarships are offered to exchange students and young research scientists from higher education institutions in the following countries:

• 19 EU-countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, and the Netherlands


• Iceland, Switzerland, Serbia and Turkey


• Non-European countries: China, Japan, Israel, Egypt and Russia

Scholarships are only available to master’s and PhD-level students and young research scientists.
Application deadline
Deadline for applications for the scholarships (Long-Term) for the academic year 2012-2013 is 28 February 2012.

In order to apply for a Cultural Agreement Programme, you must meet the following requirements;

• Having at least two years of completed studies


• Good language skills


• Be able to get credit transfer for your stay abroad (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at AAU)


• Present a study programme plan

The scholarship covers expenses in relation to the stay. You are exempt from having to pay tuition at the foreign university, as this is included in the scholarship. Travel expenses are not covered. The scholarship is allocated for a maximum of one academic year, i.e. typically 8-10 months. If you are entitled to SU (the Danish State Educational Grant and Loan Scheme), these payments can continue while you are abroad.
