BTH scholarship programme for prospective students

BTH scholarship programme for prospective students is available for citizens from non-EU/EEA countries who are required to pay tuition fees for Swedish university education. You apply for a BTH scholarship after you have applied for a BTH campus based programme or single subject course on Universityadmission.se. Applicants to distance education at BTH are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

This scholarship programme offers scholarships covering tuition fees in part or in full. Please indicate in the application form which scholarship levels you are interested to be considered for. For example, if you should be awarded a 25% scholarship level this means that you are required to pay only 75% of the tuition fee for the programme you were awarded this scholarship. There are a larger number of scholarships at the lower scholarship levels and thus there is a better chance to be awarded one of these. No more than one scholarship from this programme can be awarded for one person. The scholarships are granted on the basis of academic excellence. The application for scholarship will be considered only if the application fee is paid or if you are exempted from paying the application fee.

Note: The BTH scholarship programme is not open for students from the following 12 countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.Students from these countries instead have the possibility to apply for The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships

Description of the scholarship selection process and the result concerning scholarships for 2012.

The scholarships from BTH scholarship programme for prospective students 2012 are awarded to applicants who have applied to campus based programmes at BTH as their first choice. Ranking has been made within each programme, according to criteria of qualifications for selection to first choice programme. Then the selection process was as follows:

1)      The applicant with highest rank from each programme was selected
2)      In addition, applicants with excellent academic background were selected
3)      Remaining scholarships were given to programmes with the highest number of applicants.

This in all resulted in 15 scholarships given in the first round (March 2012) and 11 scholarships in the second round (June 2012).

BTH scholarship programme for current students

BTH will award a limited number of scholarships corresponding to partial reduction of the tuition fee to students with excellent academic performance during the part of their studies at Blekinge Institute of Technology.

In order to be eligible to apply for this BTH scholarship you have to be registered as a student on campus based programme at BTH. You also have to be required to pay tuition fee for the remaining part of your programme.

This scholarship is granted on the basis of academic performance at BTH and if needed to distinguish previous academic education results can be considered. The scholarship will not be paid directly to students; instead it will reduce the tuition fee starting autumn 2013.

Note: The BTH scholarship programme is not open for students from the following 12 countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Description of the scholarship selection process and the result, concernig scholarships fro 2012

In order to be eligible for the BTH scholarship programme for current students you have to be registered as a student on campus based programme at BTH. You also have to be required to pay tuition fee for the remaining part of your programme. This scholarship was granted on the basis of academic performance at the three first study periods on the applicants current education programme, taken from our local database Ladok at 2012-05-23. The scholarship was awarded to four students as a 50% reduction of the tuition fee for the remaining nominal study period.

Uppsala University, Sweden, hereby announce that scholarships are awarded to students starting their studies at Master programmes given the autumn semester 2013. The applicant should have demonstrated an academic talent and have an interest in belonging to an international educational milieu. The scholarships are meant to cover the tuition fee for Master programmes offered in the January admission round for autumn 2013.

Anders Wall scholarship foundation for studies at Uppsala University

Uppsala University, Sweden, hereby announce that scholarships from the "Anders Wall foundation" are awarded to students belonging to The Peoples Republic of China for academic studies either on undergratuated- or graduated level. The applicant should have demonstrated an academic talent and have an interest in belonging to an international educational milieu.The scholarships are meant to cover the tuition fee for Master programmes offered in the January admission round for autumn 2013. The "Anders Wall" scholarships are decided by a scholarship board and may be provided to the same individual for more than one year.

The Scholarship Foundation of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong for studies at Uppsala University

Uppsala University, Sweden, hereby announce that scholarships from The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong are awarded to students belonging to the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong for academic studies either on undergratuated- or graduated level. The applicant should have demonstrated an academic talent and have an interest in belonging to an international educational milieu. The scholarships are meant to cover the tuition fee for Master programmes offered in the January admission round for autumn 2013.

The head of Student Affairs and Academic Registry Division decides, in cooperation with The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, who will be the awardees. The scholarship may be provided to the same individual for more than one year.

Uppsala University, Sweden, hereby announce that scholarships from The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in New York are awarded to students who are American citizens for academic studies either on undergratuate- or graduate level. The applicant should have demonstrated an academic talent and have an interest in belonging to an international educational milieu. The scholarships are meant to cover the tuition fee for Master programmes offered in the January admission round for autumn 2013.

The head of Student Affairs and Academic Registry Division decides, in cooperation with The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in New York, who will be the awardees. The scholarship may be provided to the same individual for more than one year.

DTU Denmark, Postgraduate Scholarship in Water and Wastewater Engineering

For almost two centuries DTU, Technical University of Denmark, has been dedicated to fulfilling the vision of H.C. The department of Environmental Engineering (DTU Environment) is a DTU-institution at the highest international level. The Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as PhD student on the topic:

”Innovative bacteria-algal system for wastewater resource recovery”.

The fellowship is funded as part of the strategic research collaboration the E4WATER (EU-FP7) project.

Job description
Green micro-algae have been identified as a potential solution to the challenge of depletion of fossil –based fuel and global warming, mostly, as a result of the high growth rate and high CO2-fixation capacity. Furthering the objective of decoupling food production from crops-based biofuel using algae biomass is of high scientific interest, presently. The main objectives of micro-algae cultivation using wastewater resources can be defined as (i) direct use for energy production via anaerobic digestion/biogas production; (ii) high-value chemical production (oils-biodiesel); (iii) the use of green micro-algae suspension as natural fertiliser in agricultural production (the indirect use for biofuel production). A cost-effective, bacteria-based wastewater treatment process that can provide balanced nutrient and optimum pH conditions for the cultivation of mixed green micro-algae population cultivation does not yet exist.

The research will focus on (i) laboratory-scale (batch and sequenced batch photo-bioreactors) experimental assessment of biochemical, physical and physicochemical processes in combination with an upstream bacteria-based system (ongoing PhD project), (ii) microbial analysis, (iii) assessment of different reuse options for harvested algal biomass, (iv) process modelling and global sensitivity analysis. Additionally, the fellow will also have the opportunity to be involved in a parallel project, focusing on the up-scaling of the technology developed. The project is embedded in the micro-algae research initiative of DTU Environment, currently employing 2 post-doctors and 3 PhD students.

Qualifications
At the date of appointment, candidates must have obtained a Master's (M.Sc.) degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the Master's degree in engineering. A high motivation for research and solid written and oral communication skills in English are prerequisites of any successful application.

The successful candidate has training and interest in the following areas: environmental biotechnology and process modelling. The candidate will have an M.Sc degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline, evidence of research experience, and significant exposure to one or more of the following areas: laboratory experimental work, biokinetic process analysis, mathematical modeling, water chemistry and wastewater treatment processes.
