12 Scholarships for attendance of a PhD program in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering: Politecnico di Milano



There are 12 vacant scholarships for PhD-students at the Department
of Management, Economics, and Industrial Engineering of
Politecnico di Milano. One of the scholarship is reserved to non
Italian students. The other 11 scholarships are open to both Italian
and non Italian students.



The scholarships are for three years. They will start on 1-1-2007. They
include a mandatory period (minimum 6 months) to be spent in a foreign
academic institution. The net amount of the scholarships is 826 EURO
per month (1.212 EURO per month in the semester spent abroad). The
amount of the scholarships may be increased through participation in
the teaching activities at undergraduate, master and MBA/Executive
level of the Department and in contract research activities.



Research issues of interest to the Department are as follows:

• Alliances, acquisitions and knowledge generation of high-tech start-ups

• Technology policy and external financing of high-tech start-ups

• Economics of telecommunications • Regional competitiveness and enlargement

• Knowledge, creativity and local development

• Urban competitiveness and globalization processes

• Economic evaluation of local development plans

• Knowledge management and communities of practice

• Firm-level effects of regulatory reforms in network industries
• IPOs and firms’ performances • Entrepreneurship and finance

• Organization of domestic health care services
• Innovative models for marketing services control
• Internationalization of firms and production processes
• Price competition in international markets
• Analysis of operating risk and organization of transportation systems
• Logistics
• Data mining and business intelligence;
• Application of optimization methods and mathematical models for inductive learning to management, public administration and biolife systems



The successful candidate must have a Master degree in a relevant social science or technical discipline (at least five year-university education). He/she must have strong interests in applied research in management, economics and/or industrial engineering. The Department offers opportunities to attend conferences, to meet and interact with

international researchers, and to present preliminary work in high-quality discussion workshops.
